Landscape Committee
November 1, 2008
Please note a change of date for the first Spring meeting to April 25th @ 9:30 a.m. There is a board meeting at 10 a.m. on the 18th.
MINUTES
Diana Gould called the meeting of the Landscape Committee to order at 9:40 a.m. at the Chimney Hill office, Wilmington, VT. In attendance were Pam Massey, Mary Ann Holthaus, Marguerite Babor, and Jane Carey. Ken Spicer, Executive Director, CHOA, was also present.
Minutes: The minutes of the meeting of September 27, 2008 were approved.
CURRENT BUSINESS
- We expect Janet Boyd to submit her plans for next year’s CH gardening early in January, 2009, as well as an indication of her fees for the year, and a schedule of garden workshops to be presented at the Boyd Family Farm in 2009. (The latter will be included on the Committee’s webpage.) Ken suggested that better watering and weeding follow-up is needed next summer, and the young, memorial lilac trees need special attention where watering and fertilizing are concerned.
- Developing a Statement of Purpose for the Landscape Committee may be premature at this stage and should be tabled, since the Committee presently is extending its reach to include care of common land, some recreational activities, etc., beyond the role of the previous Beautification Committee. However, Ken located a kind of annual agenda/calendar that was prepared by previous chairs of the Beautification Committee, which listed the Committee’s anticipated activities for the season. Diana will e-mail the list to Committee members and ask for additions and comments to be discussed at our next meeting.
- Jane will coordinate the snow shoe/cross-country ski get-together on MLK weekend, 2009 with Susan Ennis of the Clubhouse/Recreation Committee. Details will be forthcoming via e-mail to Committee members.
- Winter events, such as the get-together noted in Item 3, will be announced on the Landscape Committee’s webpage as well as in the main body of the CHOA e-newsletter and “Hill and Valley” news.
- The scheduled trail walk behind the Birchwood tennis courts is tabled until next spring.
NEXT MEETING DATE: April 25, 2009, 9:30 a.m., Chimney Hill Office
ADJOURNMENT: 10:25 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Pam Massey

From time to time, we will post links to current articles in gardening magazines and newsletters. They are articles that have piqued our interest, provided inspiration for our own approaches to gardening, and seem worthy of sharing with our fellow Chimney Hill gardeners.
